Questionnaire

These questions are about racial issues in the various circles you live in, like in your family, your generation, your parents’ generation, within your own race, and outside of your own race, your personal group of friends, your neighborhood, your community . Most people belong to several groups at the same time, and you might see attitudes differing from one of your groups to another. The questions are about how you feel, and how you perceive others feel.

The words race and culture are not exact, and for this questionnaire, we use them together so as not to leave anyone out. Please use these words as you see fit and as they apply to your situation.

Within groups (even in your family) there may be more than one race or culture group.

  1. You might live on a reservation where everybody in the community is Native American but where there are several tribes, each with its own culture.

  2. Or you could be African-American by race and from a strongly Muslim family.

  3. Or maybe your father is Filipino and your mother is Hawaiian.

People choose some of the groups we belong to, but not all. For instance, you can’t choose who is in your math class and you might therefor be exposed to a wider variety of attitudes than within your family.

You may also be exposed to lots of different people because of Location. You may see different attitudes if your summers are spent away from your school environment.

However you identify, and however you feel about race and culture, we want to hear from you.

Thank you for participating.
